Support the SHOCKWAVE documentary by contributing toward our costs.
SHOCKWAVE: The Rise, Fall + Rebirth of a Detroit Dynasty seeks a consortium of like-minded funders to complete production. Our ideal funding structure brings together collaborators of all kinds — corporate, foundational, and individual — in a joint effort to simultaneously honor the original franchise’s legacy and celebrate the new franchise’s arrival.
Our fundraising goal is $1M, with major cost centers including travel, equipment rental, archival clearances, accessibility, and post-production. We encourage everyone who feels as strongly as we do about the Detroit Shock and the future of women’s basketball to participate in bringing this story to audiences worldwide.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QuestionS
-
Funds primarily support production (interviews, filming, editing), archival work (research, rights, digitization), community programming (premieres, school & neighborhood screenings), and evaluation/reporting. Administrative costs are kept lean; we aim for ≥85% of funds to go to programmatic work (production + impact). A preliminary impact plan is available upon request.
-
Day-to-day decisions sit with the director/producer within a board-approved budget. Any single expense above a preset threshold (e.g., $5,000) requires dual approval (producer + Suit Up & Soar Foundation treasurer or designee). We seek 2–3 competitive bids for major vendors when feasible. The board reviews quarterly financials, and an independent financial review (or audit, if required by revenue/grant terms) is conducted annually.
-
Donations are processed by the Suit Up & Soar Foundation and are intended to be tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive an emailed receipt immediately after the transaction and a year-end summary upon request. Consult your tax advisor for individualized guidance.
-
Yes. We honor purpose-restricted gifts and track them in separate classes (e.g., archives, screenings, education). If funds remain after completing the stated purpose, they roll to the closest aligned need (with your consent). If a restriction becomes impracticable, we’ll contact you to re-designate or follow our refund/redirect policy.
-
Supporters receive periodic updates (milestones, expenditures by category, highlights from interviews/archives) plus an annual impact summary covering screenings, attendance, youth programs, and lessons learned. If circumstances change (e.g., costs come in under/over plan), we’ll communicate adjustments and reallocate funds within board policy to protect the film’s quality and the community deliverables.
